This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH.
Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at NorDoc member faculties. All other participants must pay the course fee

The course is mandatory for PhD students in the graduate programmes DRA and MoMeD and therefore these PhD students have first priority. This means that all applicants will be put on the waiting list upon registration, and after deadline all participants will be notified whether they are given a seat.

Learning objectives
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
1. familiarise with the most important time management methods and instruments: Essentials for surviving the doctorate
Content
New, time limited and complex – such are the characteristic features of a doctorate. At the beginning this may sometimes be breathtaking!
But proven time management tools pave the way for the professional development and planning of projects, for competent guiding of their implementation and for their successful completion. With the help of these tools even difficult steps in the PhD journey can be safely navigated.
During the course the participants familiarise themselves with the most important time management methods and instruments. The following topics are at the core of the course:
Part 1: Time management essentials for surviving the doctorate
• Basics of time management during the doctorate: Setting goals and priorities
• Would ’ave, could’ave, should’ave: Disturbances & time-wasters – both self-inflicted & caused by others
• Self-management: Tips and tricks which really work
• Important or urgent: My projects in the Eisenhower diagram
• Efficiency versus effectiveness: The subtle difference
• Structuring your time: My planning horizon
• Expect the unexpected: Strategies for dealing with the unplannable
• Scientific project planning and management: My next steps
Participants
PhD students from MoMeD and DRA who have started their PhD within the previous 6 months will have first priority on this course. This means that all applicants will be put on the waiting list upon registration, and after deadline all participants will be notified.

Teachers
Dr. Simon Golin, Berlin [Germany], heads the consultancy company golin wissenschaftsmanagement. For more than 30 years now he has been involved with not-for-profit management – with a focus on science, education and the foundation sector. Amongst other things, he has been managing director of the “Deutscher Studienpreis” at the Körber foundation, secretary general of the German National Ethics Council and secretary general of the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg.
