Mathematical Modelling of Living Systems Journal Club (3)
DTU National Institute of Aquatic Resources
The overall objective is to increase the knowledge of mathematical modelling work across DTU Aqua and strengthen the level of mathematical expertise in developing, analyzing, evaluating and implementing mathematical models of living systems. The journal club provides a forum to discuss the mathematical details of models that are used in all branches of work at DTU Aqua. The specific topics are drawn from the interests of the participants, either from recent or classic work that they would like to understand, or from emerging ideas in their own work. A secondary objective is to improve the communication skills of the participants and create a common language for discussing mathematical models.
Learning objectives:
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
- Read, assess, and critically review scientific articles that feature mathematical models of living systems.
- Make a structured oral presentation of scientific articles, addressing results of research projects.
- Host a scientific discussion of a work
- Evaluate and explain the value of mathematical modeling in the general scientific landscape, and specifically within the topic of the student’s own work
- Provide alternative/additional models that can be made to further explore the scientific problem shown in a specific article.
- Provide constructive feedback to presentations given by fellow students.

Contents:
The course consists of presentations and discussions of scientific articles and emerging models from the participants’ own work. The evaluation will focus on both deep knowledge of the information delivered and the way that the information is delivered.
