Professional and Academic Development for PhD Students in Wind & Energy Systems

This course is designed to support PhD students in Wind & Energy Systems in developing essential professional and academic skills for a successful research career. Through interactive workshops, peer learning, and networking activities, students will strengthen their abilities in research communication, innovation, career planning, and effective collaboration. The course combines practical sessions on: using AI in research, scientific communication, personality types and their influence on collaboration, with opportunities for reflection and feedback through poster presentations and group discussions.
Learning objectives:
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
- Communicate research effectively through posters and oral presentations
- Personality type awareness with focus on more effective collaboration
- Manage time efficiently throughout the PhD journey
- Understand the basics of innovation and entrepreneurship in a research context
- Reflect on career paths and transferable skills for both academia and industry
- Provide and receive constructive feedback in peer and group settings
- Leverage AI tools to enhance research workflows
- Collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary and multicultural research environments
Contents:
Workshop A: Using AI in Your Research Practical introduction to generative AI tools (e.g., SciteAI) for literature search, citation analysis, and research compliance (copyright, integrity, authorship). Workshop B: Personality type awareness. Learn more about yourself and get tips for how to optimise collaboration with others. Workshop C: Startup – Get Started From science to business: innovation processes, intellectual property, and DTU support for early-stage ideas. Workshop D: Time management Work smart rather than just hard. Strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance and managing research tasks efficiently. Poster Sessions Peer-to-peer feedback and open poster sessions to practice scientific communication.
