Description:
The course is designed for biofuels and biomass liquefaction technology in the context of energy and chemical products. The course will introduce fundamental principles of liquefaction, focusing on hydrothermal liquefaction. Based on this, it will move on to upgrading technology for biocrude and drop-in biofuels approach. Furthermore, the course discusses process analysis and design, process modeling tools, and process implementation.
Including learning objectives: The student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
- Describe the pretreatment techniques and assess biomass resources dedicated to bioenergy production.
- Analyze and evaluate biomass conversion processes to fuel or energy, including mass and energy balances.
- Explain the fundamentals of the HTL process and its technical challenges.
- Describe the critical parameters for the upgrading of biocrude.
- Analyze feedstock and product characterization.
