- Complete MSc degree in relevant scopes.
- PhD students within Electronics, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, Power Systems or similar.
- Industry experience.
Background:
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a critical discipline in the design and operation of modern electronic systems, where increasing integration density, faster switching speeds, and complex packaging significantly raise the risk of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Ensuring compliance with international EMC standards has become a foundational requirement in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, medical devices, and industrial electronics. This need is further intensified by the widespread adoption of power electronics, high-speed digital systems, and wireless technologies. As traditional design margins shrink, engineers and researchers must adopt rigorous modeling, simulation, and test methodologies. This course equips PhD students with advanced theoretical foundations and practical competencies to analyze, simulate, and mitigate EMC problems, while also interpreting global regulatory requirements and integrating EMC principles into robust system design. International experts from academia and industry will update students on the latest developments, challenges, and emerging directions shaping the field.
Main Topics:
Different topics to be covered in this course are:
- Fundamentals of RF Signals and EMC Principles
- International EMC Standards and Regulatory Frameworks
- Conducted Emissions and Immunity
- Radiated Emissions and Immunity
- Shielding, Grounding, and PCB Design Practices
- Crosstalk and Coupling Mechanisms in High-Speed Systems
- EMI Filter Design and Optimization
- Simulation Techniques for EMC and SI/PI (e.g., field solvers, behavioral models)
- EMC in Power Electronics and Wide-Bandgap Devices
- Data-Driven and Model-Based Approaches in EMC
- Smart Testing and Robotic Near-Field Scanning
- Functional Safety and Electromagnetic Resilience
- Industrial Case Studies and Emerging EMC Challenges
