PhD Courses in Denmark

Qualitative Research Interviews are a key research method for many PhD researchers in the Social Sciences. Their analysis and conclusions depend for a large part on the information acquired through interviews. The importance of knowing how to conduct an interview well can therefore not be underestimated. To be well prepared and carry out such interviews in a consistent manner resulting in useful and reliable data for research requires both theoretical and practical training. This workshop is therefore a combination of a discussion of the methodologies and methods of interviewing, and hands-on interview training. Particularly the latter should be applied to the PhD student’s own research project as much as possible.

The course is aimed at PhD researchers who are looking for introductory to intermediate level training on qualitative research interviews. We will cover a range of interview methods, with a slight focus on expert interviews.

Objectives for participants:

• Acquire understanding of different types of interview methods, their use and their relevance

• Improve skills in planning, preparing for and conducting interviews as well as processing the information generated in these interviews

• Reflect on methodological and ethical issues related to interviews
