Presentation skills: For beginners and experts
Copenhagen Graduate School of Social Sciences
Department of Psychology
Dates and time: 28-29 April 2025 from 9:00 to 16:00
Presentation skills are important in academia. One thing is to be a thorough researcher conducting important research. Another thing is to awake the interest in your audience and lure them to listen.
This course will have a focus on practice rather than theory. We will start by looking at different technical aspects such as voice, body, dramaturgy etc. It is prioritized that participants have as much time as possible to try out presenting. And that a safe, informal space is created, where we dare to take changes and thereby expanding our room for maneuvering on “stage”.
Participants will have to prepare and memorize a two-minute pitch about an element of their PhD project that they find particularly interesting (or the entire project in 2 two minutes). They will also have to prepare 5 PowerPoint slides to support their pitch.
Academic Aim
- To improve presentations skills in general
- To become aware of your means of action when you present
- To become more comfortable when you present
Target group: For PhD students only. PhD Students regardless of background.
About the course teacher and organiser
Ulrik Nykjær Jeppesen is, besides being a Medical Doctor and a current PhD Student at the Department for Psychology, an educated actor from The Danish National School of Performing Arts (2010-2014). He has been working as an actor in theatre productions, films and TV series. Over a longer period of time, he has combined his professional knowledge and been a teacher for mainly health care professionals in presentation techniques as well as teaching amateurs in how to act in simulation training. For Ulrik, it is important to create a safe and informal environment as this is most necessary to thrive and grow. Especially when new and perhaps thrilling things shall be tried out.
