The overall aim of module 4 of the career management segment of the course is that PhD students have the job searching skills required to transition smoothly into a job that matches their aspirations.
The career management segment of this module will cover the following topics:
• The Danish labour market
• Job search
• CV and cover letter writing
• The recruitment process
The overall aim of the RCR2 segment in module 4 is to prepare PhD students for submission of the papers and their thesis and for their wider communication of findings.
RCR2 covers the following topics:
• Necessary documentation, such as ethical permissions, co-authorship statements, and CoI statements.
• The process of thesis submission, plagiarism checks, potential text improvements, and thesis assessment works.
• Preparation and documentation of data and materials according to the highest reproducibility standards.
• Communicating in an ethically sound way with different stakeholders and audiences using different communication styles and tools. This includes being able to recognize potential issues such as overselling, biased contextualization and appeal to authority.
• Rules of engagement with journalists and other stakeholders, such as preparing, seeking advice, and checking quotes.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
• Identify important aspects of the Danish labour market.
• Describe a typical recruitment process in industry.
• To give students an overview of important things to have prepared for or thought about before paper and thesis submission.
• To obtain knowledge about risks and benefits of active public science communication and provide students with dos and don’ts.
Skills:
• Translate the skills they have developed during their academic training to other relevant contexts.
• Ability to execute all necessary preparatory steps for successful submission of papers and thesis in accordance with current standards of RCR
• Ability to engage with different stakeholders using ethically sound communication skills, styles, and tools.
Competences:
• Articulate career goals and make career plans
• Plan the transition from PhD student to their next job.
• Identify and use relevant tools in the job search, including activating professional networks.
• Market themselves effectively to prospective employers
• Ability to prepare, submit papers and ph.d.-thesis in accordance with current RCR standards.
• To communicate research findings to a wider public in accordance with current RCR standards.
