ECTS: 3

Date and Time: May 15-17, 2024

Deadline: 24 April 2024

Place: AAU Energy, Pontoppidanstraede, Aalborg, Denmark

Format: Hybrid

Max no. of participants: 20

Teaser/short description: Energy is a resource that needs to be managed and decisions need to be made on optimal production, storage, distribution, and consumption of energy. How much power to produce, where and when, and assigning resources to needs in the most efficient way is decided by the Energy Management System.

Description:

Day 1:

Lecture: Introduction to Models, Methods, and Optimization tolos (Part I- LP, NLP, MILP, QP) + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (2 hours) + Josep Guerrero (1 hour)

Lab 1: Introduction to GAMS + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (1 hours) + Juan Vasquez (1 hour)

Day 2:

Lecture: Introduction to Models, Methods, and Optimization tolos (Part II- Multi-objective optimization, Heuristic and evolutionary algorithms) + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (4 hours) Lab 2: Solving optimization problems with PSO + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (1 hours) + Juan Vasquez (1 hour)

Day 3:

Lecture: Energy Management of Microgrids + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (3 hours) + + Josep Guerrero (1 hour) Lab 3: Energy Management with GAMS + Najmeh Bazmohammadi (1 hours) + Juan Vasquez (1 hour)

Prerequisites: Familiarity with basics of power systems operations, mathematical modelling, linear algebra. Skills regarding programming with Matlab is also needed.

Form of evaluation: The participants will be grouped and asked to work on several case studies during the course period and need to prepare a report and send to us in two weeks after the course.
