Intercultural competence training for language teachers, translators and interpreters

Description:

In this seminar, we will review theoretical approaches to intercultural competence and their materialization in real-life didactic proposals aiming at developing intercultural competence amongst language professionals, specifically, language teachers, translators and interpreters.

From a critical stance, we will also review notions of culture and interculturality that are present in teacher, translator and interpreter education.

Aim:

Students will gain an understanding of different theoretical approaches to the training of intercultural competence, as well as practical knowledge about specific pedagogic proposals.

Contents:

Notions of culture, intercultural communication, intercultural competence, teaching of culture and interculturality

Target group:

PhD students. MA students and other interested scholars are also invited to participate, though without own presentations.

Seminar/PhD course in the morning + Master Class in the afternoon

2 ECTS for PhD students who make a presentation during the Master Class
